The Mountains

The most prominent resort in South Lake Tahoe is Heavenly Valley, located one mile from the shores of the lake. It is California’s largest mountain, offering 4,800 acres of amazing skiing and unbelievable, breathtaking, panoramic views of the lake.

Kirkwood is located 35 miles south of South Lake Tahoe, and is a great smaller resort with 2,300 skiable acres. You will experience vast bowls and pristine snowfields surrounded by volcanic cliffs and granite ledges- one of the most gorgeous mountain valley sanctuaries you will find, and all with plenty of elbow room to explore.

Northstar-at-Tahoe is located approximately 10 miles south of Truckee in North Lake Tahoe. With nearly 2,500 skiable acres, you will find plenty of powder snow covering a super pipe, a half pipe, five terrain parks, and a variety of bowls, bumps, and cruiser runs. And new to Northstar is Polaris Park- offering everything from tubing, snowmobiling, and snowboarding, after dark.

Please note there are many other ski areas in the Lake Tahoe area. Areas such as Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Sierra, Sugar Bowl, Mt. Rose and many more that are included in the five-day interchangeable ski pass.

The Town

Hugging the water’s shore, the town of South Lake Tahoe offers beauty and excitement- from the quieter side of cozy restaurants and friendly pubs, to the bright lights and busy nightlife of a string of casinos. The main hub in North Lake Tahoe is the old western town of Truckee. A modest assortment of quaint, upscale, yet down-to-earth shopping and dining options will greet you here; though for more boisterous nightlife alternatives, you might choose to head over to Reno or down to South Lake.
