Tellluride Mountain
Located 65 miles south of Montrose airport (MTJ), Telluride is a ski resort that traverses two box canyons and has grown over the years to nearly 1,700 skiable acres. It receives an average of 309 annual inches of light, dry snow, which blankets 84 trails, bowls, and some of the steepest terrain in North America. And the best part is, this can be enjoyed without the typical crowded ski slopes and long lift lines you find at other ski resorts.
The Town of Telluride
Whether it got its name from the gold-bearing ore Tellurium, or whether it was a collaboration of “To Hell You Ride”- both are a reflection of the wild mining times from which Telluride got its origins. In fact, this town is infamous for possessing the first bank robbed by Butch Cassidy. Today, you will find many of the original Victorian houses, old saloons and clapboard stores, now home to the numerous world-class restaurants and excellent nightlife options for which the ski resort is noted.
Telluride Lodging: Condos and Hotels
There are two main lodging areas in Telluride Ski Resort. The new Mountain Village offers mostly ski in/out, deluxe to luxury accommodations, whereas the old town of Telluride has a wider range of moderate to luxury lodging, mostly within walking distance of the ski lifts or gondola. The gondola, which is free and runs from 7 in the morning up until midnight, can also be taken to get between the village and the town for evening dining and entertainment.
